We just bought a house and were about to repaint the paneling in the basement when we discovered that beneath the ugly pink and yellow layers on the wall is a beautiful oak wood! How can we strip this awful stuff away and have the pretty wooden walls again? How do I strip paint from wood paneled walls?
Citristrip- they sell it at home depot. It is awesome!
Less harsh than conventional paint strippers, so it can be used inside without a respirator. You paint it on, wait 30 min, then scrape the paint off with a scraper or putty knife. It comes off in sheets. You might have to do 2 coats or so if there are several layers of paint. Just see how it goes. I am in the middle of almost the exact same story in my new house. But substitute Oak cabinets in the kitchen instead! Really glad i found this product! How do I strip paint from wood paneled walls?
I wouldn't strip it unless you are ready for alot of hard work. The paint may have gone in the pores of the wood and that is almost impossible yto get out. There was a reason they painted it probably becuse it made the basement too dark. I would just paint over the ugly pink and yellow.
