If its paint and not stain, I used a brush on paint remover, waited bout 10-15 min. The remover will blister the paint and you can use a scraper to remove the goop. Sand paper is the safest way to remove the paint from wood furniture however it is very laborous and if the furniture is thick and sturdy and if its a table with a flat bed and straight legs the normal carpenter chistle the removes tiny flakes of wood can be used but here you are losing small amount of wood and also this cannot be applied on furnitures like chairs and curved / design carved ones and one has to only use a sand paper. There are also some chemicals that would remove the paint and you could also try them and this would be the best option provided the cost is affordable.
