Can you paint a parquet wood floor?

The parquet wood floor is hardwood in a pre-war building but is so thin the nailheads are showing. I'm not sure I'm up to refinishing it yet or putting in a new floor. Can I paint it as a temporrary fix using a porch paint or is that in terrible taste? Can you paint a parquet wood floor?
I think you have answered your own question. if parquet is that thin ,then it was poor quality originally, and you could certainly paint it.

Good quality parquet is usually about 3'; thick, and has NO nails, as it is bedded in smoking hot tar.
