i REALLY want to build a clubhouse this summer and i know my dad won't go for it unless it leans more on the cheap side. if you know of anything, HELP.Where can i find cheap wood and paint?
you can check construction sites they usually throw away as much material as they use, you can also use cheap materials like use osb instead of plywood and use white pine or spruce instead of yellow pine but your clubhouse will not be as strong or pretty or last as long as when you use good materials as far as cheap paint walmart has some that works good, or you can check paint stores sometimes they sell paint that was colored wrong or colored and never picked up for half offWhere can i find cheap wood and paint?
Find out if you have a Habitat for Humanity 'Restore' near you. It is like a thrift store full of building materials that Habitat for Humanity sells in order to support their home-building program. i have definitely seen paint in there, and sometimes plywood. Often, the lumber goes to their stockpile for building Habitat homes, though. Also, sometimes large lumber yards have sales on old redwood, cedar, or even fir that had sat out in the lumber yard for a long time and has gotten a little weathered and warped. And, finally, sometimes when a barn is torn down, the lumber is sold off, so keep an eye on local ads if you have farmland around you.
When i was a kid, they were building my whole neighborhood, we were the one of the first people to move in, i used to go into the Dumpsters and collect scrap wood, i build half pipes, bike ramps, and a tree house, and all of it was free. You wouldn't find many long pieces though, usually like 5' or less, unless it was warped, or the said house was finished and they threw away the extra.
Problem with building a clubhouse, is its going to be outside, and unless you plan to finish it with siding and roofing, you will need all pressure treated wood so it wont rot on you a few years down the road. If your going to scavenge, pressure treated wood is greenish looking.

Amongst sellers, home depot, and loews are rip offs, you can get much cheaper materials at lumber yards, lumber yards will stock things like screws and lag bolts too, since you will probably need them.
You can get pressure treated plywood too, for the exterior, in addition to pressure treated materials you should use galvanized bolts , hangers, and nails for any fastener that comes into contact with pressure treated material.
All other fasteners should have a weatherproof corrosion resistant coating on them, usually it makes the screws appear as if they are painted.
Go to a place like Menard's, Home Depot and ask if they have any discarded wood that you can purchase for much less than you would if they could other wise sell at full price.
We have purchased many bags of stone like this, because the bags were broken. Much, much cheaper. They could have siding pieces, wood, etc. You would have to ask. We never knew this until an employee mentioned it to us. We saved a lot of money with the rock we needed. Wish we would have known about this before hand.
As for paint, ask them the same. They may have incorrectly mixed a gal. of paint and now can't put it back on the shelf. They will sell it for more than 1/2 off. Or try a paint store or small hardware store for the things you're looking for. I know your local hardware store has a lot of full gals. of paint just sitting there because the color wasn't right. You can save lots of money. There are ways. You just have to find them.
A lot of businesses have scrap wood piles that are free for the taking or put an ad in kijiji for free scrap wood and paint wanted
';Goof'; paint can be found at most hardware stores cheaply. It's the paint that someone didn't like after they mixed the color.
Post an ad on Freecycle or Craigslist asking for the materials you are looking for- specify ';cheap or free';.
