How does one remove paint from unfinished wood stairs?

Help! I painted my stair risers ( white) the steps themselves are unfinished/unprotected mahogany. Some paint got onto the wood and seems to have ';set'; in the grooves of the wood. How can I remove it without harming the wood? The steps were stained, but not urethaned. Also, the tape I used did a terrible job at the edges and there is some seepage in the seams between the steps and the risers, how do I remove that?
