I'm going to say you'll need to be careful with scale. If you're using perspective, you'll probably want to draw lines to form the boards. Make the lines in the longest way first. Then like when you lay wood floors, stagger the other lines to again draw the appearance of boards. Using a paint brush, the width of the board, paint on a base coat of a wooden color, something like yellow/gold. Get enough paint on so you can drag a dry brush, same size or smaller, over the wet paint to make ridges, nothing too high, maybe even moving the brush to make curvy lines. Let whole thing dry completely. Go back over whole thing with either a wash made with brown/gold paint and water or use a stain. The stain you will have to put on then wipe off the extra, leaving ridges with color. Try both on a scrap of something to decide which one you like best. Sounds like it will be cool. good luck!
