How can I paint a wood door to look like a stainedglass window?

I'm painting my door. And I want it to look like a stained glass window. How can I make it look like one without obviously looking like a door painted to look like one?How can I paint a wood door to look like a stainedglass window?
paint door white, buy stick on stain glass film from Lowes or Home depot. Run a little strip of wood around the edge of the film to look like a frame.

If you are not ';stuck'; on stained glass, you could think about using wallpaper on your door. Or frame out a section on the top to look like a window and paint something, or put a poster there and frame it out like a window by cutting apart a landscape poster and putting wood molding where the window frame would be.

all of this is going to look fake. What you could do is buy a new all glass door. Well the outside area is wood. Buy gallery glass at the craft store and diy a stained glass effect. I've seen that done and it most definitely looks real. How can I paint a wood door to look like a stainedglass window?
you can purchase lead tape and glue it on the door and if you want to go a step further find some pictures of stain glass and put them under the the tape this will give you a stain glass look , here is a link where you can download for free

Or you can purchase a roll of faux stain glass vinyl and apply it to the door and run the lead tape around as a finishing touch.

its never going to look ';real';, but I have seen stained glass decals to put on windows and doors, which would probably look better than paint. If you do this, then add trim around the stained glass to make it more authentic looking.
