Put primer onHow do you prep dark finished wood to paint it white?
You may need to use a primer.
use kilz it works wonderful.
You need a white primer paint or a base coat paint to start with, and usually this takes a couple of good coats to hide all blemishes of the stained wood. Then you can begin your application.
Get a liquid deglosser and wipe down the area to be painted, next apply a good quality oil primer/sealer, I like a product called ';Cover Stain'; made by Zinsser all their products are great. Now that you've primed your woodwork you'll need to CAULK all the black lines (gaps) using a good quality siloconized latex caulk ( make sure it says ';paintable'; ) let dry overnite and then start applying your finish coat either an oil based paint or a 100% acrylic which ever you prefer but you will need 2 finish coats for it to look good. Always remember 2 light coats are better than 1 heavy coat and which ever sheen you go with make sure it's some kind of enamel finish Good luck Les the painter
clean with TSP then wash.Use a good primer then paint on your colour.
